Clam pizza

This is one of our favorite pizzas and you can have all ingredients on hand.  (The type of ingredients one might want to put in one’s freezer/pantry if one lived in a part of the country where you could have a blizzard coming in.)  You can make with or without the tomatoes.

Clam Pizza

  • 1 pizza crust (Boboli is fine or fresh from your market)
  • 2 TB olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 TB Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2/3 cup clam meat (frozen, fresh or canned)
  • 2 small tomatoes, diced
  • Fresh parsley

Combine garlic and olive oil.  Brush over pizza crust.  Spread pizza crust with mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and clams.  Sprinkle with tomatoes and parsley and bake for 10 – 12 minutes in a 450 oven.  Enjoy.

Clam pizza variation

Tonight we decided to try the clam pizza that we know and love with a twist.  Instead of the usual mix of olive oil and garlic, I used some of the Torchbearer’s garlic sauce that we had on the veggie pizza.  It was a stronger flavor and we both liked it.  I think I give a slight edge to the traditional version but always good to switch things up!

Clam Pizza

  • 1 pizza crust (Boboli is fine or fresh from your market)
  • 2 TB Torchbearer’s garlic sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2/3 cup clam meat (frozen, fresh or canned)

Spread garlic sauce on pizza crust.  Top with mozzarella cheese and clams.  Bake for 10 – 12 minutes in a 450 oven.  Enjoy.

Pizza night

Tonight my husband and I have schedules that barely intersect long enough for dinner.  I’ll have the clam pizza ready when he gets home from paddle so we can each have a piece before I head out to stitch with a friend.

Clam pizza

Keith and I both love clam pizza.  We haven’t had it in ages because we haven’t been able to find the frozen clam meat that we like.  Finally we were in Wegman’s and they had it back in the freezer.  That makes this a really easy dinner for Thursday when everyone is tired and Samantha has soccer.

Comfort food

Tonight we had clam pizza.  Great choice given that due to a traffic accident, it took me almost 2 hours to get home from work.  The clam pizza takes about 5 minutes to assemble and 10 minutes to cook and we both love it.  We buy the frozen clam meat at Wegman’s.  (In fact, the clam meat, the pizza shell and the Mozzarella cheese were all from the freezer – good ingredients to keep on hand.)

Clam Pizza

  • 1 pizza crust (Boboli is fine or fresh from your market)
  • 2 TB olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 TB Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2/3 cup clam meat (frozen, fresh or canned)
  • Fresh parsley

Combine garlic, olive oil and red pepper flakes.  Brush over pizza crust.  Spread pizza crust with mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and clams.  Sprinkle with parsley and bake for 10 – 12 minutes in a 450 oven.  Enjoy.

If you don’t like clams, you could take a similar approach with shrimp.

My friend the freezer

Due to the uncertainty around the storm, I had not planned the full week as I typically do.  That meant that today, I wasn’t sure what we were having for dinner tonight.  Fortunately, having a well stocked freezer gives a girl some options.  My husband loves the clam pizza and I knew that we had clam meat, pizza shells and grated Mozzarella cheese in the freezer.  The other ingredients are staples.  If you have a favorite pizza or pasta dish where you can keep everything you need handy in your pantry and/or freezer, you are always ready for a quick solution.

Clam Pizza

  • 1 pizza crust (Boboli is fine or fresh from your market)
  • 2 TB olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 TB Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2/3 cup clam meat (frozen, fresh or canned)
  • 2 small tomatoes, diced
  • Fresh parsley

Combine garlic, red pepper flakes and olive oil.  Brush over pizza crust.  Spread pizza crust with mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and clams.  Sprinkle with tomatoes and parsley and bake for 10 – 12 minutes in a 450 oven.  Enjoy.

Pizza night

I love pizza that is a little different (we went to a new local pizza restaurant – Earth, Wood and Fire on Saturday and I had a scampi pizza with cheese, shrimp and garlic chips – it was delicious.)  This clam pizza is one of my favorites – you can find frozen clam meat at Wegman’s.

  • 1 pizza crust (Boboli is fine or fresh from your market)
  • 2 TB olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp (more to taste) red pepper flakes
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 TB Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2/3 cup clam meat (frozen, fresh or canned)
  • 2 small tomatoes, diced

Combine garlic, red pepper falkes and olive oil.  Brush over pizza crust.  Spread pizza crust with mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and clams.  Sprinkle with tomatoes and parsley and bake for 10 – 12 minutes in a 450 oven.  Enjoy.

Clam Pizza

I blogged this but it’s been quite a while ago and my husband requested so it’s back on the list.  I originally had clam pizza in Connecticut.  I love clams so this was a natural for me.  It used to be on the menu of the local branch of a chain pizza restaurant but then they took it off.  If you find something you like and then lose it, you have to figure out how to make it yourself.

I have found frozen clam meat in the freezer section at Wegman’s.  It’s good and the clam meat is big.  You could also steam fresh clams and use the clam meat or use a mix of canned and fresh.  I bought extra frozen clams for more pizza or clam chowder.

Clam Pizza

  • 1 pizza crust (Boboli is fine or fresh from your market)
  • 2 TB olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 TB Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2/3 cup clam meat (frozen, fresh or canned)
  • 2 small tomatoes, diced
  • Fresh parsley

Combine garlic and olive oil.  Brush over pizza crust.  Spread pizza crust with mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and clams.  Sprinkle with tomatoes and parsley and bake for 10 – 12 minutes in a 450 oven.  Enjoy.

Clam Pizza

I first tasted clam pizza in Connecticut and since I love clams, I was an instant fan.  I stopped to get the clams that were advertised on sale at a local store and discovered that they sold out over the weekend.  I could have changed my plan but I had my heart set on clam pizza.  They had frozen clam meat which worked fine.  You could use canned clams or the meat from fresh steamed clams or a combination of these.

Clam Pizza

  • 1 pizza crust (Boboli is fine or fresh from your market)
  • 2 TB olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 TB Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2/3 cup clam meat (frozen, fresh or canned)
  • 2 small tomatoes, diced
  • Fresh parsley

Combine garlic and olive oil.  Brush over pizza crust.  Spread pizza crust with mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and clams.  Sprinkle with tomatoes and parsley and bake for 10 – 12 minutes in a 450 oven.  Enjoy.

Stop at the store tomorrow on the way home and get one tilapia filet per person.
