Why grocery stores give out samples

We all love samples at the grocery store.  (Samantha is very fond of “eating her way through Graul’s”).  There is a reason that grocery stores do this – we like the stuff and we buy it.  Keith and Samantha were out and about on Saturday and in their travels they encountered a sampling of Torchbearer’s Oh My Garlic Sauce.  They both liked it and came home with a bottle and a recipe for a veggie pizza with the sauce as the base.  We adapted slightly and it was a good meal for me to have set up before I went to play tennis so we could eat it in stages.  Here is what we did:

White Veggie Pizza

  • 1 prepared pizza crust (we used Boboli thin crust whole wheat)
  • Torchbearer’s Oh My Garlic Sauce (I would think you could substitute a creamy bottled caesar salad dressing)
  • 2 zucchini, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 plum tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup grated Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 TB fresh basil leaves, julienned

Spread zucchini slices on a paper towel and sprinkle with salt.  Let stand to drain some of the water and then wipe off salt.  Spoon Garlic sauce onto pizza crust and spread out evenly.  Top pizza with sliced veggies and then with grated cheese.  Bake at 450 for 10 minutes or until hot and bubbly.  Top with basil and serve.  I was too hungry to take a picture!

YUM. Can’t wait to try it! Thanks for the supermarket surfing. Long may you graze, if we get awesome recipes like this one out of your savvy sampling.
